Winter sports awards — Hoover claims state title in the pool; Allen leads strong showing on the hardwood

Newcastle’s winter sports season closed with a strong showing in the post-season awards column, highlighted by a state championship performance in the pool and multiple All-State and All-Conference selections on the basketball court.

Leading the way was swimmer Gabe Hoover, who capped his season in dominant fashion by winning the 200 individual medley at the Wyoming state swimming championships. The title performance established Hoover as the best in the state in that event and helped earn him a spot on the Wyoming Coaches Association 3A Boys Swimming All-State Team. He was also recognized within the league, earning Absaraka Conference All-Conference honors.

image-20260326092813-1On the basketball court, Kyan Allen emerged as one of the top players in Class 3A, earning selection to the Wyoming Coaches Association 3A All-State Team. The honor places Allen among the top 14 players statewide and underscores his impact throughout the season.

Allen was joined by senior Teddy Troftgruben on the 3A East Absaraka All-Conference team, which recognizes the top 16 players in the conference. For Troftgruben, the honor marked his second All-Conference selection, capping a career defined by leadership and consistency. He also earned a spot on the 3A East All-Defensive Team for the second consecutive season, reinforcing his reputation as one of the region’s premier defenders.

image-20260326092847-2Additional recognition for the Dogies boys came with three players earning Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Sophomores Dustin McCarthy and Colten Hatheway, along with junior Coen Tavegie, were all acknowledged by conference coaches for their contributions and development over the course of the season.

Head Coach Allen Von Eye rounded out the post-season recognitions for the squad when he was named as 3A East co-Coach of the Year with Buffalo’s Byron Geis.

On the girls side, senior Syd Pederson earned her second selection to the 3A East Absaraka All-Conference team, finishing her high school career as a consistent and reliable presence for the Lady Dogies. Junior Kyndal Von Eye and sophomore Zadyn Allen were also recognized, each earning Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
