LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/24/24) – The University of Wyoming soccer team managed a point Thursday at the Madrid Sports Complex. The Cowgirls tied San Diego State, 3-3.
The result moves Wyoming to 4-6-7 overall and 2-3-4 (10 points) in Mountain West Conference play. San Diego State’s record now stands at 6-7-4 overall and 4-2-3 (15 points) in league action.
There were plenty of fireworks for the home team Thursday. Wyoming’s Raegan Richardson log her first-career brace. Alyssa Bedard, once again, grabbed an assist off a flip throw and goalkeeper Haley Bartel turned away a penalty kick.
Bedard also did it with her feet. She netted the game’s first score, her sixth of the season, in the 22nd minute, scoring off a pass from Lily Brongo.
San Diego State knotted the contest during the 34th minute. Logan Nidy scored off a feed from Trinity Coker.
The Cowgirls vaulted back in front early in the second half with Richardson’s first goal of the contest. She scored via the flip throw from Bedard that Maddi Chance headed in front of goal for Richardson to clean up.
Richardson gave Wyoming some breathing room during the 62nd minute. Bedard found her on a set piece from just outside the box that made the game, 3-1.
Coker cut the Aztecs’ deficit in half with a free kick goal from 20 yards away. Denise Castro once again tied the match, heading in a cross from Coker.
Bartel ended the contest with seven saves. Her counterpart, Alexa Madueno, recorded one save.
Wyoming held the slight edge in shots at 17-16. Richardson had the most with eight, which is tied for the second most in a single game in program history.
The Cowgirls close out their 2024 home slate Sunday. They host New Mexico at 1 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
