The secret of life

By
Dean Butler

No one has asked me what the secret of life is, but if they did, here’s what I would say: It’s not a hidden mystery, but something simple yet profound. The secret of life is about living with purpose — grounded in a relationship with God. True meaning comes from loving God, loving others, and trusting His guidance each and every day.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6). This is the foundation of life, the understanding that true life is found in Christ. We are not just here to exist, but to live in communion with God, to know Him, and to make Him known to others.

The secret of life is also about love. The greatest commandment is simple: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39).

Love is at the core of everything. Loving God with our whole being and loving others as we love ourselves brings meaning to life.

Living with purpose means seeking the truth of God’s word and trusting in His guidance. The Bible tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Trusting God, even in the unknown, brings peace and direction to our lives.

Life isn’t about having all the answers, but about surrendering to God daily, knowing that He has a plan for us. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not
to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

The secret of life is found in trusting that plan, knowing that God is in control and that He is working all things together for our good.

Ultimately, the secret of life is about living in God’s will, seeking to honor Him in all that we do. It’s about living for God’s glory and sharing His love with
the world.

“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” (Colossians 3:23).

Life’s purpose is found in serving Him, living according to His will, and loving others in His name.
