RICHARD ‘DICK’ CRUM

Richard “Dick” Crum, age 73, passed away April 29, 2024, in Spearfish, South Dakota.

He was born Dec. 11, 1950, in Newcastle, Wyoming.

Richard was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his loving partner, Linda Johnson of Spearfish; daughter, Jennifer (Doug) Freeling of San Marcos, California; grandsons, Luke Freeling, San Marcos, and Carson Freeling, Seattle, Washington; brother, David H. (Mary) Crum, Casper, Wyoming; nieces, Stacy (Troy) Duran, Denver, Colorado, and Laura (Anthony) Comstock, Centennial, Colorado; nephew, David M. (Lisa) Crum, Casper; and long-time friend, Pam (Bill) Clarkson.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, David N. Crum and C. Lorraine (Cummings)Crum; and brother, Thomas E. Crum.

Dick graduated high school in Newcastle and in 1973 received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming. He had a successful career with Gulf Oil and Halliburton before starting his own consulting company. Richard’s passion for the oil business led him to travel across several states and to the Gulf of Mexico to consult on oil rigs. He later co-owned Crum’s Department Store with his family.

In his free time, Dick enjoyed golfing and traveling to California to spend time with his daughter and family, who brought him immense joy. Richard will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

The family will host a memorial service at First United Methodist Church in Newcastle on May 11 at 11 a.m. Contributions can be made to the church at P.O. Box 579, Newcastle, WY 82701 in Richard’s name.
