Newcastle Elementary School will soon be back in session.
Brandy Holmes, the school’s principal, told the News Letter Journal on Aug. 6 that students should be receiving a letter over the next few days that would inform them who their classroom teacher will be. Families and students can come meet their teacher during an open house event from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 19, the day before school starts.
Brad LaCroix, Weston County School District No. 1’s superintendent, told the NLJ on Aug. 12 that he anticipates enrollment on the first day will be a total of 296: 142 students for kindergarten through second grades and 154 students for third through fifth grades.
The only school supplies families are responsible for providing are a backpack and clean gym shoes, according to Holmes.
“Thanks to a generous donation from Par-Pacific, we are able to provide all other supplies students will need,” she told the NLJ. “The supply list on the website does list items classrooms will need, but these are optional.”
Staff are available in the office to help any parents who have questions, Holmes said. The office is also where students who are new to the school can register, she explained.
