1927–May 29, 2025

Johnna R. Morgan, a lady of Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado, died in Katy, Texas, on May 29, 2025.

Johnna was born in 1927 in Alliance, Nebraska, to Zilpha Ruby Ronzo. Johnna’s father was David Earl Walker. Johnna was raised by her mother, her caring step-father, Ward Fosdick, along with her grandparents, John and Edith Stansbury Ronzo, in Mullen, Nebraska, in the Nebraska Sandhills.

Johnna attended Mullen schools and received her initial music training locally. Johnna had considerable musical talent and enrolled at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska, majoring in music. Johnna was a classically trained soprano whose voice was welcomed wherever she sang. Johnna also was proficient at the piano and taught piano and voice. She enjoyed all forms of classical and religious music as well as the music of the era such as big band, Broadway show tunes, jazz, and the dances.

While at Nebraska Wesleyan, Johnna met the love of her life, Robert L. “Bob” Morgan, a veteran of World War II from Colorado by way of Texas.

Johnna and Bob were married in Mullen on Nov. 28, 1947. Bob and Johnna were married more than 59 years. There were four boys born to their marriage, Terry (Mike), Alan (Max), John, and James (Ken).

Bob and Johnna moved to Fowler, Colorado, where Bob’s first job was teaching school with a second job candling eggs at the local dairy. While Bob taught school and was later a principal in Fowler, Johnna raised the three boys — soon to be four — gave music lessons, and socialized with their friends. Johnna enjoyed the arts, music, and was an avid reader. Family and friends were important to Johnna. She kept in touch with her large extended family and many friends over the years and in all the places where they lived.

Bob entered the United Methodist Ministry in 1957 and the family relocated to a small town in far northeast Colorado for Bob’s seminary training where Johnna raised four boys by herself during the school week without a car in a town of 80 people.

During Bob and Johnna’s time in the ministry, they served in many places in Colorado and Wyoming: Paoli/Wages, Brush, Newcastle, Rawlins, Casper, Cortez, Sterling, and Salida. Johnna held several jobs in the places they lived, including librarian, accountant, and dental office aide. Johnna and Bob retired from the ministry in 1992 and relocated to Casper, Wyoming, followed by a move to Cheyenne, Wyoming. All the boys participated in
Johnna and Bob’s retirement life, including Wyoming Cowboy football and family gatherings in Wyoming.

Johnna was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2006. After Bob’s passing, Ken, until his passing in 2010, and Max were the Cheyenne companions for Johnna until Max’ passing in 2020 when Johnna decided to relocate to Texas.

Johnna is survived by her sons, Terry (Marilyn) Morgan of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and John (Karen) Morgan of Katy, Texas. Johnna is survived by four grandchildren, Kari, Mark, Paul, Blake; and six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katherine, Paetra, Collin, Maci, Cole.

Cremation has taken place in Katy. Interment will be with her husband at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Casper. A family memorial service will be held later.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice or a local United Methodist Church.
