Janet Rose (Guffey) Graham lost her short battle with pancreatic cancer on an April spring day with her husband at her side at their home in Greybull, Wyoming, at the age of 76.

Jan was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota, the second daughter, to Leroy and Clara “Gull” Guffey. Jan grew up in Edgemont, South Dakota, and graduated from Edgemont High School. After graduation she went to work for “Dr. Dick” in Hot Springs as a dental assistant.

In 1970, a mutual friend tried to get her to go on a blind date, which she refused several times. With much conversation and encouragement from Bunny, she finally agreed to meet Bob. In 1971, Jan and Bob were married in Hot Springs, and the 53-year wonderful and amazing journey of their life together began.

Jan and Bob moved to Newcastle, Wyoming, where she worked for the U.S. Forest Service. In 1975, Jan gave birth to their daughter, Kimberlee Dawn, and in 1977, Jan gave birth to their son, Jody Jay.

In 1983, Bob took a transfer with an Oil Company in Glenburn, North Dakota. Jan, Bob and the kids spent four years in Glenburn. They met some wonderful people there and made some lasting friends, but their hearts were always in Wyoming. So, in 1987 they moved to Greybull. Jan worked for McIntosh Oil and later started her 20-plus-year career with Big Horn Co-op. After retiring from the main office at Co-op, she decided she needed to do something else, so she went to work helping at the cafeterias in the school system.

Jan loved her children, Kim and Jody, and supported them in all their activities through school and into adulthood. When grandkids came along, Jan was the proudest grandma in the world, attending every function and activity; they had concerts, volleyball, basketball, FFA. They were her life.

Jan loved to garden and do yard work. She kept a beautiful yard and grew lots of vegetables. Jan liked to read, but her passion was her home. She kept an immaculately clean house. Bob said it seemed like every two years he had to buy a new vacuum cleaner or carpet shampooer,

Jan is survived by her husband, Bob of Greybull; daughter, Kim, and son-in-law Rob Klitzke of Greybull; granddaughter, Hannah Rose and Kaleb of Billings, Montana; granddaughter, Mackenzie Dawn of Greybull; son, Jody and granddaughter Elle Sophia of Broomfield, Colorado; her self-adopted granddaughter, Petey, and her family Quinton, Huntleigh and Creed; and her wonderful sister-in-law, Paula Gordon and her family, of Spicewood, Texas. Jan is also survived by all the friends and “Pumpkins” that called her “Grandma Jan.”

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Clara; her father and mother-in-law, Paul and “Tiny” Graham,; and her favorite brother-in-law, Chuck Gordon.

Cremation has taken place and ashes will be scattered at a later date and place.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Greybull Elks Lodge on June 22, beginning at 2 p.m. Please come share your memories and stories of Jan. RSVP by text message to 307-271-2204 or 307-272-0123 on how many of you will attend.
