Is God’s Word incomplete? Explore why many seek new revelations despite the sufficiency of Scripture and what the Bible says about God's complete truth revealed through Jesus and His apostles.

It is strange that even with the complete Word of God before us, many still run after self-proclaimed prophets, searching for new revelations. Is Scripture not enough? Did God leave something out? Why do people yearn for more?

The Bible is clear that God’s Word is complete and sufficient. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Paul writes, "All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work." This means that everything we need to know about God, salvation, and how to live in obedience to Him is already given to us in Scripture.

Yet, people still seek after new revelations. Why? Because they are not satisfied with what God has already said. In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Paul warns, "For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, and they will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths." This is exactly what we see today. Many reject the sufficiency of Scripture in favor of so-called "fresh words from God" that often cater to personal desires rather than biblical truth.

When Jesus spoke to His apostles, He made it clear that He had revealed everything they needed to know. In John 15:15, He said, "No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you." Jesus Himself confirmed that He had communicated all of God's truth to them, leaving nothing out that was necessary for their understanding and for the salvation of humanity. He held nothing back.

Furthermore, He promised that the Holy Spirit would guide the apostles into all truth. John 16:13 says, "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth." The apostles were led by the Holy Spirit to record Christ’s teachings, and through them, we have the complete revelation of God’s truth in the Scriptures.

So why do people still chase after new revelations? Often, it is because they want something more exciting, something that seems fresh, something that fits their own desires rather than submitting to the truth God has already given. But this is dangerous. Instead of seeking after new so-called revelations, we should be diving deeper into the Word God has already provided, trusting that He has not left anything out.

Psalm 19:7-9 says, "The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether." God’s Word is perfect, complete, and able to restore and guide us fully.

In Revelation 22:18-19, there is a stern warning: "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book." This serves as a clear reminder that God's Word must not be altered in any way. It is complete and sufficient as it stands. While not claiming that God cannot speak through others, it is crucial to remember that any message or teaching must always align with the truth already revealed in His Word.

God’s Word is enough. The real question is, do we believe it? Are we willing to fully trust that everything we need for life and godliness has already been provided in the Scriptures? If we truly believe this, we will seek to align our lives with what God has already revealed, rather than seeking something new or different.
