Godoy sentenced

A Newcastle man convicted of endangering a child was given a suspended prison sentence and placed on probation in the 6th Judicial District Court. 

David Martinez Godoy, born in 1978, was sentenced Nov. 20 after pleading guilty to one count of felony endangering children, in violation of Wyoming Statute 6-4-405(b)(c). The case stems from a March 7, 2025, incident in Newcastle.

District Judge James Causey sentenced Godoy to three to five years in the Wyoming State Penitentiary, with credit for three days served. The prison sentence was suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation through the Wyoming Department of Corrections, Division of Field Services.

As part of the sentence, Godoy was ordered to pay a $3,000 fine, suspended pending successful completion of probation. The court also imposed $40 in court automation fees, a $10 indigent civil legal services fee, a $150 surcharge for the Crime Victims Compensation Fund and a $75 ASI/ASAM assessment fee. Public defender fees totaling $500 were waived due to inability to pay.

Godoy was represented by defense attorney Cassie Craven. Weston County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Stulken appeared on behalf of the state.

According to court documents, Godoy was originally charged with felony endangering children and misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine. following the execution of a search warrant at a Newcastle residence after the Newcastle Police Department received information from a confidential source. 

The felony charge carried a potential penalty of up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
