Fires burn across Crook County
SUNDANCE (WNE) — Storms, trains and unattended campfires brought fires across Crook County over the weekend. As of Monday, there are multiple fires in the county, with a few on the borders as well.
The big one, at more than 850 acres with 10% containment at presstime, is called the Long Draw Fire, and it is located west of the Missouri Buttes. This fire is believed to have been caused by a campfire. There are some areas under evacuation status “Set.” People are encouraged to stay away from the area, and residents nearby should be ready to evacuate when needed.
The Long Draw Fire was being fought with multiple aerial support tankers on Sunday, according to Crook County Emergency Management Coordinator Ed Robinson.
The other fires in the county are thought to have been caused by lighting from the recent storms. These fires are located east of Oudin Hill on US Hwy 14. Rocks Fire, Garden Patch Fire, Montgomery Fire are all fewer than ten acres and all 100% contained.
