Zehender Named ITA Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz. (June 12, 2024) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced their regional awards Wednesday. Cowgirl student-athlete Sophie Zehender was named the Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year.

Zehender, who was named to both the All-Mountain West Doubles and Singles Teams for the fourth time in her career this spring, became the fourth Cowgirl in program history to be named All-Mountain West Singles for a fourth time. She also became just the second Cowgirl all-time to be named all-doubles for a fourth time. Zehender became the seventh student-athlete in Mountain West history to double-up four-time honors in both doubles and singles.

Zehender was tied for the team lead this spring with 17 singles wins and compiled 19 overall in 2023-24. She also set a new program record for most single-season doubles wins along with her partner, Violetta Borodina, as the duo racked up 28 wins during the season. In conference play, Zehender went 8-2 in singles play and was 7-2 in doubles action.
