Wyoming Takes on Pre Nationals in Madison

MADISON, Wis. (October 18, 2024) – The University of Wyoming cross country program looks to compete against nearly every nationally ranked team at Pre Nationals, hosted by Wisconsin, at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis., October 19. The meet, also the site for the NCAA Championships later this season, will begin at 9 a.m. MT for the women and 9:40 a.m. MT for the men.
In the Cowboys' first meet receiving votes in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches’ Poll since 2020, they find themselves running against 19 nationally ranked teams and another four that received votes. Eight Cowboys will run in the “A” race with another two running in the Open race at 1 p.m. MT.

Cowgirls are looking to make a statement against a similarly tough field on Saturday with 20 nationally ranked teams, including the Top 5 teams, and 10 more receiving votes. Eight Cowgirls will race in the “A” contest with two more in the Open race at 12:20 p.m. MT.

Last Time Out
Wyoming ran at the Joe Piane Invitational on October 4 in South Bend, Ind. The Cowboys ran against four nationally ranked teams while the Cowgirls ran against four, including three from the Top 5.
The men finished fourth ahead of then No. 30 Michigan State with 150 points. Junior Jacob White finished first for the Cowboys with a time of 22:49.3 for ninth in the 8k, a personal best and program record. White’s performance earned him his second Mountain West Athlete of the Week honor this season. Five Cowboys found their times on the program's Top 15 in the 8k with their performances at the invite.
The Cowgirls finished in eighth ahead of then No. 25 Michigan State with 261 points. Senior Kylie Simshauser led the team with a personal best time of 16:39.6 for 19th and set the program record in the 5k. Seven Cowgirls earned their way on the Top 15 program times in the 5k at the meet, including the Top 4 all being set in South Bend.
