Edward Buchanan
I grew up in Goshen County farming and ranching. I attended UW and served in the U.S. Air Force. My wife and I have four children. I served in the Wyoming State Legislature and worked on legislation to strengthen our corporate laws to keep sham companies out of Wyoming. In doing so I developed a keen understanding of the office and how it relates to the effective function of government. I was elected by my peers as Majority Floor Leader (2008-2012) and Speaker of the House (2010-2012). I developed leadership skills during my military service and led the House of Representatives with civility and respect for members of both parties with the goal of solving constituent problems, making government more accountable, balancing the budget, increasing savings, keeping taxes low and generally making Wyoming a better place to live.
I see this as an opportunity to serve the public. I truly love Wyoming and found that my time serving the citizens in the legislature, next to family, was the single most rewarding experience of my life. I want to be a public servant of whom the people can be proud. Being Secretary of State allows me to continue in a public service role.
I currently serve as Wyoming’s 22nd Secretary of State, appointed in March, 2018. I have specific plans for the office, some of which I have already implemented. 1. Use technology to streamline essential interactions to make things easier and more efficient for business and the public; this improves customer service. 2. Make agency rules and regulations more transparent and get citizens involved in the process; this creates a better product and less unnecessary regulation. 3. Be proactive in the fight against corporate, consumer and election fraud. 4. Be an ambassador for the people of Wyoming. This means traveling and listening to ALL parts of Wyoming so that everyone has representation on the boards and commissions back in Cheyenne; this returns an emphasis on a government closest to the people.
