Mark Gordon
I grew up on a family ranch outside of Kaycee and currently serve as Wyoming Treasurer. I’ve run outdoor recreation and tourism businesses on the main streets of Buffalo and Sheridan and worked in the oil and gas industry for the Apache Corporation. I served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City before being selected by the Wyoming Republican Party State Central Committee to serve as Wyoming Treasurer. I won election to serve as Treasurer in 2014. Together with my wife Jennie, we have four grown children, and we still ranch and farm in Johnson County.
Wyoming is at a crossroads right now. We’re facing a lot of change here in the state, across the country and around the globe. We have serious challenges we need to address — balancing our budget, improving access to quality healthcare and ensuring Wyoming children receive the education they deserve. The hard truth is, tackling these challenges will require working together and making some tough decisions as a state.
That’s why it is more important than ever to have a proven conservative leader with the knowledge, experience and dedication to fight for Wyoming and its people every single day. I’m the only candidate in this race who has a proven record of defending our conservative values, saving taxpayers money, working with the legislature to help Wyoming businesses and standing up to protect your Constitution. I’m ready to hit the ground running as your governor on day one.
The biggest job of our next governor is going to be managing spending levels without growing government while still providing the essential services the people of Wyoming depend on. The boom times over the last decade have resulted in advanced spending rates that Wyoming simply cannot keep up with. To address Wyoming’s funding shortfall, we have to prioritize needs versus wants, make reductions to ensure we are living within our means and look at ways to improve efficiencies and cut costs.
As the state treasurer, I have worked to make sure lawmakers can be confident in their planning on the investment returns the state can expect by increasing transparency and public participation. My track record in the treasurer’s office demonstrates my ability to do more with less while safeguarding taxpayer dollars. I’ve been a fiscal conservative all my life and I have the private and public-sector experience to chart this new course for our state.
As governor, my top priorities will be keeping government minimal, accountable locally and living within its means; fostering innovation and encouraging strategic growth and development from the ground up; and providing exceptional educational opportunities for our kids and continuing education everyone needs to succeed and lead in the transforming workplace of the future. I’ll work each and every day to set the course for a stable, bright Wyoming future.
