What Satan Thinks of a Believer Part 2

Part 2: The Power of Our Identity in Christ
One of the most powerful things a believer holds is their identity in Christ. Romans 8:31 reminds us, âIf God is for us, who is against us?â Satan, when he looks at a true follower of Jesus, sees someone marked by the blood of Christ, redeemed and empowered. This reality unsettles him, because he knows he cannot change it.
The authority believers hold is rooted in Christâs victory on the cross. When Satan sees us clinging to our faith, even in hardship, it serves as a reminder of his defeat. In his eyes, we are untouchableânot because of our own strength, but because of who we are in Christ. This identity grants us the power to resist him and the assurance that he can never ultimately harm us.
More than anything, Satan fears the believerâs potential to spread the light of Christ. Jesus calls us âthe light of the worldâ (Matthew 5:14), and this is the last thing Satan wants to see shine. When he looks at a believer, he doesnât just see someone whoâs been savedâhe sees someone who could be a powerful witness, someone who can plant seeds of faith and inspire others to turn toward God.
Every time a believer steps into their calling, they diminish the darkness. Satanâs tactics often revolve around trying to convince us that weâre not enough or that we canât make a difference. But his very attempts reveal his fear of what could happen if we live boldly for God. He recognizes our potential to impact others and weaken his influence, and this terrifies him.
Despite all his efforts, there is one unshakable truth that Satan must accept: believers are secure in Christ. Jesus Himself promises, âI give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Fatherâs handâ (John 10:28-29). Satan may try to cast doubt, stir up fear, and create obstacles, but he canât change the reality that those who belong to Jesus are held firmly in His hands. As 1 John 4:4 assures us, âGreater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.â
Satan knows that, in the end, he canât win against those who are rooted in Christ. Our victory isnât based on our own power but on Godâs power and His unchanging promise. Knowing this frustrates and defeats him, for he cannot undo what Jesus accomplished on the cross. When we stand firm in our faith, Satanâs accusations fall flat, and his power over us is rendered ineffective.
When we consider what Satan thinks of us, it may be tempting to feel intimidated, but the truth is that our identity in Christ gives us an unassailable strength. Satan prowls, yes, but he prowls because he recognizes the authority believers carry, the power of their faith, and the security of their salvation. As we remember this, we can stand firm in the face of every attack, knowing that our victory is assured in Christ. And in the end, itâs not what Satan thinks of us that mattersâitâs what God says about us. We are His, and that is enough.
