What Satan Thinks of a Believer Part 2
Part 2: The Power of Our Identity in Christ
One of the most powerful things a believer holds is their identity in Christ. Romans 8:31 reminds us, “If God is for us, who is against us?” Satan, when he looks at a true follower of Jesus, sees someone marked by the blood of Christ, redeemed and empowered. This reality unsettles him, because he knows he cannot change it.
The authority believers hold is rooted in Christ’s victory on the cross. When Satan sees us clinging to our faith, even in hardship, it serves as a reminder of his defeat. In his eyes, we are untouchable—not because of our own strength, but because of who we are in Christ. This identity grants us the power to resist him and the assurance that he can never ultimately harm us.
More than anything, Satan fears the believer’s potential to spread the light of Christ. Jesus calls us “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), and this is the last thing Satan wants to see shine. When he looks at a believer, he doesn’t just see someone who’s been saved—he sees someone who could be a powerful witness, someone who can plant seeds of faith and inspire others to turn toward God.
Every time a believer steps into their calling, they diminish the darkness. Satan’s tactics often revolve around trying to convince us that we’re not enough or that we can’t make a difference. But his very attempts reveal his fear of what could happen if we live boldly for God. He recognizes our potential to impact others and weaken his influence, and this terrifies him.
Despite all his efforts, there is one unshakable truth that Satan must accept: believers are secure in Christ. Jesus Himself promises, ‘I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand’ (John 10:28-29). Satan may try to cast doubt, stir up fear, and create obstacles, but he can’t change the reality that those who belong to Jesus are held firmly in His hands. As 1 John 4:4 assures us, ‘Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.’
Satan knows that, in the end, he can’t win against those who are rooted in Christ. Our victory isn’t based on our own power but on God’s power and His unchanging promise. Knowing this frustrates and defeats him, for he cannot undo what Jesus accomplished on the cross. When we stand firm in our faith, Satan’s accusations fall flat, and his power over us is rendered ineffective.
When we consider what Satan thinks of us, it may be tempting to feel intimidated, but the truth is that our identity in Christ gives us an unassailable strength. Satan prowls, yes, but he prowls because he recognizes the authority believers carry, the power of their faith, and the security of their salvation. As we remember this, we can stand firm in the face of every attack, knowing that our victory is assured in Christ. And in the end, it’s not what Satan thinks of us that matters—it’s what God says about us. We are His, and that is enough.
