What Satan Thinks of a Believer Part 1
Part 1: Why Satan Notices Believers
In 1 Peter 5:8, we read, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” This verse paints a clear picture of the spiritual battle we face daily. Satan doesn’t bother attacking those who are already under his influence; he zeroes in on believers, those who stand for Christ and reflect His light. This paper explores what it means to be noticed and targeted by Satan and reveals what the enemy truly thinks of those who follow Jesus. Understanding Satan’s view of believers helps us better appreciate our identity in Christ and the power that identity holds over the enemy’s schemes.
Satan is always on the lookout, but he’s not prowling around aimlessly—he seeks out believers specifically, not just anyone. Why? Because anyone who belongs to Christ has a potential he fears and an authority he can’t overcome. As Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, our battle isn’t “against flesh and blood, but against...spiritual forces of wickedness.” Satan doesn’t have to battle with the world; he’s already in control of it. When he sees a believer, however, he sees someone he can’t claim as his own.
To Satan, a believer stands out because they’ve chosen a different path—a path that represents a threat to his domain. Our presence reminds him of the One he’s already lost to, Jesus Christ, who holds ultimate victory. As such, Satan’s attacks are not random; they’re targeted attempts to shake our faith, weaken our resolve, and distract us from our purpose.
Satan's attacks are not just aimed at discouraging believers individually; he also seeks to weaken their testimonies to prevent them from leading others to Christ. If he can shake a believer's faith or sow seeds of doubt, fear, or failure, he can dull the impact of their witness to those around them. Satan knows the power of a faithful testimony, and he’ll go to great lengths to try and silence it, whether through distractions, struggles, or temptations. His goal is not only to isolate believers but to hinder them from sharing the hope and freedom found in Jesus, hoping that by diminishing their light, others will remain in the darkness. (Continued)
