WHAT KIND OF CHURCH DOES THE LORD WANT?
Introduction:
We often see political leaders sending out surveys to understand what people want from them. But what if we reversed that concept and asked, What does God want from His church? The answer is clearly written in His Word, showing us what a true, God-centered church looks like. So let’s take a look at what the Bible says about the kind of church the Lord desires.
1. God Wants a Spiritually Minded Church
In the book of Acts, we find a picture of a church that focused on God and not on worldly things. This early church was built on a foundation of faith, prayer, and fellowship with each other and with God.
Acts 2:41-47 says,
"Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved."
The Lord desires His people to be set apart and dedicated to Him, as we see in 2 Corinthians:
2 Corinthians 6:17-18
“Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters,’ Says the LORD Almighty.”
A spiritually minded church also centers on the Word of God. Our spiritual focus is strengthened when we let His Word live in us and when we worship together.
Colossians 3:16
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
God desires a church where His people are deeply rooted in spiritual devotion, gathering to grow in the Word, worship, and prayer. When we commit ourselves to a Christ-centered life, our church will naturally reflect a genuine unity and dedication that pleases God and draws others to Him.
