Marcia Lambert
My name is Marcia Lambert and I am running for reelection to the Weston County School District #1 board. I am married to Bill Lambert and we ranch just outside of Newcastle. We have two children, Will and Cole, who are married. We are known as grandma and grandpa to three very special children. Two of our grandchildren are or will be attending the elementary school. I have the good fortune to spend a lot of time with my family and especially the grandchildren. I love taking the opportunity to teach them how to cook, read to them, work beside them or just stepping back to watch them grow. Most grandparents will say it is the greatest time of their lives, and they are right. It is also part of my reason for wanting to get reelected to the school board. I have served on the school board for four years and have had very rewarding experiences. I feel privileged to be part of a system that emphasizes learning for all students, provides a safe place for children and a great work environment for our community.
I would like the opportunity to serve another term because I feel like I have barely gotten my feet wet. As a board member, I have participated in numerous trainings including board governance through the Wyoming School Board Association. There is a definite learning curve with the different terminology that is used in the education field, (way different from ranch lingo) and it takes time to learn.
There are some very important issues that concern me and I would like to help see them through (school safety, school funding formula, personnel and student achievement). School safety is a major concern — we must continue to train our staff, students and community to be aware and vigilant of their surroundings.
Weston County School District #1 is one of Newcastle’s largest employers, so personnel issues are always there. We must continue to support the personal and professional growth of all staff. The uncertainty of the state school funding makes it a challenge to plan for the future of students and staff. The political issues always need to be addressed, we have to keep our focus on what is best. Student achievement is among the top issues dependent on the above.
I like to think that I have an influence on students, the board and future leaders by being a person that has morals, ethics and by thinking things through carefully. I am an approachable person and a very good listener. I also have time to devote. I love our community and our schools and my history at WCSD#1 goes way back. I will always have the district’s best interest in my heart and when making a decision I will always take the time to think it through and make sure it is the best for children, our district and our community.
