Mark Mitchell
My name is Mark Mitchell and I am running for the school board in Weston County School District #7. I am retired after 36 years in education as a teacher and secondary principal. I came to Upton in 1988 and was the secondary principal there for five years, then went back into the classroom as a special education teacher, physical education teacher and junior high coach. I have also served for four years on the Upton City Council and during my time as principal I served for four years on the Wyoming High School Activities Association Board of Control. I was also president of the Northeastern District Administrations Association. Part of my administrative duties in the high school was as the activities director.
My reason for wanting to serve on the school board is to insure that all students have the best opportunity to succeed, to keep the board transparent and to increase communication with all residents in the district. I believe that diverse instruction is the best way to insure that all students have the best opportunity to learn, knowing that one type of teaching method isn’t going to work for all students and to increase communication skills and social skills to help prepare students for the future. I want to make sure the student achievement is always the primary goal of the district. It is also important to make sure complaints are handled through the chain of command, knowing that board members can’t handle problems on their own and that complaints should be directed to the proper people.
