Goals: To keep people informed of their rights as citizens. Being the mayor would be an honor, but the real importance is who you appoint as council! They, the council, are the ones who vote on ordinances, grants, and many other important matters. The mayor usually doesn’t vote, unless it is a tie-breaker. That’s why it’s important as citizens to come voice your opinion. That’s how you get the results. The tie-breaker should be the citizens’ voice! The majority! It is imperative, as a town, that the citizens become more involved in the decisions of our town government. You can’t be upset at a decision if you didn’t voice your opinion. I am here to serve the people of Upton and dedicate my time to the research!
Current employment: Monday through Friday I can be found at the Skull Creek Mall, located in Upton. I might be making a flower arrangement, doing homework, or reading statutes, but I’m always here.
Family and history: Upton is our hometown! No matter what part of the world we explore, we will always make our way home! My husband, Stanton Hicks and I, along with our five children moved to Louisiana on blind faith! Boy, were we blessed! Stanton was the captain of the police department and I was the town clerk and assistant clerk of courts for three and a half years. My mother fell ill and we made the decision to move back to Upton to be with her. Job opportunities inside Upton city limits are scarce for my profession. Due to young children, we made a family decision that I would hold off on a paid legal career and focus on what really matters, our children and our community!
Hobbies and interests: Community service has become the “normal.” I do love to escape the world in kayak, every once in a while and rip-lips (fishing). Being bored isn’t an option for me, I’ll just read a book! My most treasured hobby is taking care of my family.
