Two local cowboys, who happen to be twin brothers, will compete at the National High School Finals Rodeo later this month in Rock Springs after qualifying at the State High School Finals Rodeo last month in Gillette.
Both Jake and Cooper Deveraux will take on the National High School Finals Rodeo, representing Newcastle in the tie down event, according to father Craig Deveraux and the Wyoming High School Rodeo Association website. Jake was able to take the high score in the event and Cooper held strong to take the alternate position.
According Craig Deveraux, one of the higher placing boys decided they did not want to go to the national finals allowing Cooper to move up and attend the event in Rock Springs.
Jake was able to take first overall with a score of 228.50, over 50 points higher than the second place cowboy from Buffalo. Cooper rounded out the top five with a score of 137.50.
Jake also placed high enough in the steer wrestling with a score of 154 to take fifth and secure the alternate position representing the state if one of the other cowboys cannot compete for some reason.
Both Deveraux boys will compete July 14-20 in Rock Springs, WY.
