Trio of Cowboy Golfers Earn Academic All-District Honors
Azevedo, Dales and Panke Garner Award
LARAMIE, Wyo. (June 25, 2024) – A trio of Cowboy golfers were named Academic All-District on Tuesday as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Patrick Azevedo, Jimmy Dales and Kristof Panke garnered the honors. It marks the second-straight season Dales has earned the award and the first for Azevedo and Panke.
The two received Academic All-District honors in the At-Large category that includes the 10 men's NCAA sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. The trio were key parts of the Cowboys earning a second-straight postseason berth.
Azevedo, a native of Othello, Wash., has a Grade-Point Average of 4.0 working towards his Master’s in Business Administration. He appeared n 13 events for the Cowboys averaging 72.8 strokes per round for the season. His best finish came at the Mark Simpson Invitational hosted by Colorado finishing 11th.
Dales, a native of Northville, Michigan recently graduated with a Master’s in Busines Administration with a 3.80 Grade-Point Average. He played all 14 events last season averaging 72.6 strokes per round. He finished fourth in the final regular season event of the season at Missouri. He led the Pokes with a ninth-place finish at the MW Championship.
Panke, a native of Davenport, Wash. Is working on his bachelor’s in accounting and sports a 3.79 Grade-Point average. He finished the season averaging 72.4 stroke per round to lead the team. His top finish was sixth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. He finished seventh at the Golfweek National Golf Invitational to close out the season.
Criteria for Selection to Academic All-District Teams
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.
Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
