Treat employees to paid time off
Now that we’re into the New Year and most businesses seem to be open and functioning again, I think we should make a quick note of those businesses that allow their employees to have some much needed time off during the stressful holiday season.
It’s no secret that the holidays bring about high tension and sometimes the worst attitudes among shoppers. We’re tired, we likely have forgotten to buy a gift for someone in the family, we are hungry, we think others are rude when we’re likely just as much to blame, and it seems that we take out our stress on the people who are simply doing their job and allowing us to give our families a great and memorable holiday.
All that said, it’s a great gift to your employees, if you’re able, to give them some much needed R&R.
General studies have shown that 80% of employees tend to work harder when they feel more appreciated. Making our employees feel valued boosts engagement, motivation and productivity leading to higher performance levels. The result allows your business to grow and thrive.
Nowadays, it seems finding hard-working individuals is challenging. Many employees seem to want all the benefits and high pay without upholding their end of deal -- simply doing their job or, better yet, exceeding it to grow within their company. In those cases, when you’re lucky enough to have found those individuals who are willing to put in the work required of them, I suggest you give them a reason to never want to leave.
It’s understandable that a handful of businesses, likely mom and pop shops, aren’t able to give their employees paid time off for a week or even two at a time. While that says a lot to the employee, every little bit of appreciation goes a long way. Small acts of kindness within the workplace will benefit the business and employees alike.
As a business owner, I encourage you to hold onto those employees who put in their best each day for your enterprise and show them your appreciation as much as you’re able.
