Three Wrestlers Earn All-American Status at U23 Nationals

GENEVA, Ohio (6/3/24) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team had a half dozen on its rosters compete at the U23 Nationals this weekend at the Spire Institute. Half of the Cowboys that went earned All-American status.     

Josh Kyle (61 kg), Stockton O’Brien (61 kg) and Brett McIntosh (72 and 74 kg) were the trio that finished in the top-eight to earn All-American recognition. David Saenz (61 kg), Cooper Voorhees (74 kg) and Gabe Willochell (70 kg) rounded out the Cowboys that competed.   

Kyle led the way, boasting a runner-up finish in his Greco-Roman bracket. His journey featured an upset of No. 1-seeded Aaron Lucio in the semifinals.

No. 20-seeded O’Brien posted quite a few upset victories en route to a fifth-place finish in his freestyle bracket. He defeated No. 13-seeded Lucio, No. 12-seeded Julian Farber, No. 14-seeded Alex Almeyda, No. 16-seeded Tyler Ferrara and No. 11-seeded Aaron Nagao.  

McIntosh placed sixth in his Greco-Roman bracket. His All-American quest included an upset, as well, as he beat No. 5-seeded Garrett Lyons.
