They Don’t Know What They Don’t Know

Walking through the bustling market, I couldn't help but feel a deep sadness. Everywhere I looked, people were wandering from vendor to vendor, completely absorbed in their daily routines. It was a picture of busyness, yet I knew that many of these individuals were missing something profound. They were blissfully unaware of what it truly means to know God, to have a relationship with the Holy Father and Jesus Christ.

As I observed them, my heart ached with the realization that they were fumbling through life without the light and guidance that a relationship with God brings. It's like they were searching for something to fill a void, but they didn't know what they were looking for. They didn't realize that the peace, joy, and purpose they sought could only be found in Christ.

The Bible tells us in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.'" This verse reminds us that Jesus is the only path to a fulfilling and eternal relationship with God. Without Him, people are wandering aimlessly, missing out on the true essence of life.

Another verse that comes to mind is Matthew 9:36, which says, "Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd." Jesus looked at the crowds with compassion, understanding their lost state. This is how I felt looking at the market crowd, knowing that many were distressed and dispirited without the shepherd's guidance.

It's easy to get caught up in the temporary pursuits of life, like buying goods in a market, and forget about the eternal. But Jesus calls us to seek something greater. In Matthew 6:33, He says, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." If only these people knew to seek God's kingdom first, their lives would be transformed.

In moments like these, we are reminded of our mission as believers. We are called to be lights in the darkness, to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those who are lost and searching. As Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

May we have the same compassion that Jesus had for the crowds, and may we be moved to share the hope and love of God with those around us. They don't know what they're missing, but we do, and we have the incredible privilege of introducing them to the Savior who can fill their lives with meaning and joy.
