In support of Memorial Highway legislation
In support of Memorial Highway legislation
If there was anyone more deserving of having a highway named after them than Loren “Teense” Willford, we believe one would be hard pressed to find them.
Teense was a larger-than-life figure both personally and politically. He left an impression on the Wyoming Legislature which has lasted more than 20 years since he last sat in Cheyenne, his advocacy and his antics still being told to this day by legislators and lobbyists alike. His advocacy continued in private life as he was a driving force on the North Platte Valley Medical Center Board of Directors and the Platte Valley Legacy Foundation.
With that in mind, we can’t help but offer our full support to a bill which will be introduced during the 2025 General Session by House District 47 Representative Bob Davis (R-Baggs). The bill — HB44 — would rename the section from Wyoming Highway 230 from the Wyoming Highway 130/230 intersection, known as the Snowy Range turnoff, to the corporate limits of the town of Riverside the Loren “Teense” Willford Memorial Highway.
If it were up to us, we’d rename the entire stretch of highway from Walcott to Riverside in honor of Teense as he traveled up and down the Platte Valley on a regular basis. Of course, if highways were to be renamed by how much time Teense had spent on them, there would be quite a few to rename.
Kudos to Davis for sponsoring the bill and kudos to Representative Steve Harshman (R-Casper) and Senator Dan Dockstader (R-Afton) for co-sponsoring this legislation. We hope this bill sees little opposition in Cheyenne and look forward to traveling the Loren “Teense” Willford Memorial Highway.
