Sealed
Ephesians 1:13-14 says: "In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory."
Ephesians 1:13-14 beautifully emphasizes a key truth: the moment we believe in Christ, we are immediately sealed with the Holy Spirit. This sealing is not a separate event but happens simultaneously with our faith. As soon as we hear the message of truth—the gospel of our salvation—and place our trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit enters our lives, marking us as God’s own.
The Holy Spirit is referred to as the "Spirit of promise," a reminder that God’s promises are trustworthy and certain. The Spirit is not only a seal but also a pledge, a guarantee of what is to come. Just as a down payment assures that the full amount will be paid, the Holy Spirit in our lives assures us of our future inheritance in Christ. This pledge is God’s commitment to fully redeem His people, bringing us into the fullness of His presence and glory.
In these verses, we find deep assurance. Believing and being sealed happen at the same moment, meaning that our security in Christ is not based on our efforts but on God’s faithful promise. The Holy Spirit within us is a constant reminder that we belong to God, and He will complete the work He began in us. This truth fills us with hope and confidence as we live for the praise of His glory.
