As of Tuesday afternoon, there was one confirmed case of COVID-19 at the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp in the staff population, according to an Aug. 18 press release from the Wyoming Department of Corrections. There have been no confirmed cases within the inmate population. The department announced that it had begun testing at the facility north of Newcastle on Aug. 3.
According DOC releases, the Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton is the only facility tested that has not received a positive result. The Wyoming Women’s Center in Lusk reported zero cases in the inmate population and one recovered case in the staff population. Also reporting cases, although none are currently active, is the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, where two inmates have recovered and three staff have recovered from COVID-19.
The only Wyoming Department of Corrections facility reporting active cases on Aug. 14 is the Wyoming State Penitentiary, where there were 18 active cases in the inmate population and five active cases in the staff population. Another 11 inmates have reportedly recovered from the illness, as have 13 staff members.
“Testing will take place next week for all inmates and staff at the Wyoming Women’s Center. Once that occurs, all WDOC facilities will have gone through the mandatory testing process at least once. Two full rounds of testing have been conducted at WSP,” the release says. “The WDOC is continuing to conduct individual COVID tests as necessary, in accordance with guidelines from the Wyoming Department of Health. In addition, random testing will be conducted on an on-going basis as a precautionary measure.”
