Oh, what a wonderful day!

ere is a shout out to everyone who came together to create the second annual Madness on Main event. We know we can’t name everyone, someone will always be missed, but we want to thank you for putting on such a fun event for the community. 
This one-day event was full of activities for all and even brought some pretty special visitors to town. Businesses came together on Main Street to bring joy to the hearts of kids, something that is lacking in today’s society. 
Youngsters were able to run amuck, soaking wet from the water balloon fight, covered in icing while bobbing for donuts, and playing life-size checkers on the street.  Not a care in the world, these kids got to be kids as the adults watched out for each other, keeping an eye on everyone’s children so all could have fun. 
This. This is Newcastle and small-town America. These are the things that are being lost in the hustle and bustle of today’s busy, technology driven atmosphere. Let’s take a moment, step back and enjoy the good ol’ days. 
From pancakes in the morning to kin calling in the evening, there was something for everyone at the Madness on Main event, at very little cost. 
Sen. John Barrasso even made a jaunt to Newcastle to scoop up ice cream and shaved ice on Saturday. He visited with people at the Weston County Library ice cream social and wandered down Main Street, browsing through the farmer’s market. 
Myra’s Shaved Ice was his favorite treat, he told the News Letter Journal, and he gushed over the beauty of the courthouse and the memorial out front. Barrasso took time to talk to anyone that came his way and shared smiles with kids as the hopped from one activity to another. 
Not often do small towns get big visitors like our Wyoming senator, but we were very humbled by the experience we shared with him this weekend. He pulled up his pants leg, sat on the sidewalk, joked with the kids, spilled shaved ice down his shirt and laughed it all off — not something you see out of a Washington politician often, especially in Newcastle.
We hope there will be many more such events in Weston County, where everyone can gather for a good time — and maybe a dignitary or few will stop in to visit!
