Every two seconds a hospital patient needs a lifesaving blood transfusion, but with a simple poke and a few relaxing minutes in a chair, you can save a little girl in an intensive care unit or a father with Stage 3 leukemia.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Newcastle High School Student Council will host a Vitalant blood drive in the high school library. Vitalant welcomes the donation of all blood types, but if you are under the age of 18, you must have a parent sign the consent form.

Residents are urged to help the local student council compete with the rest of the councils in the state to donate the most blood. The blood drive will take place in the high school library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To schedule an appointment, reach out to the high school for more information. Those who donate are invited to visit vitalant.org to see how their blood changed someone’s life.
