BOULDER, Colorado (9/30/24) – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team and the rest of the field were fighting the waning daylight during Day 1 of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite. And due to darkness, some teams did not complete Round 2, one of which was Wyoming.

The Cowboys are currently in fifth as a team at 16-under. Jaren Calkins leads the way for Wyoming, as he’s tied for fifth at 137 (-7).

“The boys played steady,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “I’m just going to try and keep us in rhythm and stay in our process. We played a lot of good golf, and we had a lot of good shots. I’m proud of them all.”

Calkins got out of the gates extremely well, firing a 67 (-5) in Round 1, which featured six birdies and an eagle. He backed that up with a second-round 70 (-2).

Brody Leid pieced together his strongest day as a collegiate golfer and is tied for 18th at 4-under with one hole left to complete in Round 2. He opened with a 70 (-2) that had three birdies associated with it and is currently 2-under in his second round, as well.

Kristof Panke is tied for 18th, as well, with Hole 18 yet to be completed. Much like Leid, Panke went 70 (-2) in Round 1, with five birdies sprinkled in, and is 2-under in Round 2.

Davis Seybert, who’s competing as an individual, enjoyed a very consistent day. He carded a first-round score of 70 (-2) and backed that up with a 71 (-1) over his last 18 holes for a total score of 141 (-3), which is good enough for a tie for 24th.

Damon Vilkauskas has also yet to complete Round 2. Currently he’s tied for 37th at 1-under after an opening-round 71 (-1) and he’s even in his second round.

Ethan Smith, who’s playing as an individual, didn’t get off to a particularly strong start but closed extremely well en route to being tied for 45th at 144 (E). Smith’s first round saw him shoot a 75 (+3), however, his second 18 he finished in 69 (-3).

Patrick Azevedo rounds out the Pokes and he’s not finished with Round 2 yet, either. He finds himself in a tie for 55th at 1-over. He shot a 71 (-1) in his first round and is 2-over in Round 2.

Golfers will conclude their second rounds tomorrow morning with Round 3 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
