Eight teams met at Newcastle High School this past weekend to face off in the 1A East Regional Volleyball tournament. The tournament was actually hosted by Upton High School, but Newcastle High School acted as the host site.
Coming in number one ranked for the northeast region, Kaycee High School was able to clinch the tournament title by beating Lingle-Ft. Laramie, No. 1 in the southeast region, in three sets to claim victory in the championship game.
Both teams will compete in the 1A State Tournament in Casper beginning on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Hanna-Elk Mountain and Arvada-Clearmont will join Kaycee and Lingle-Ft. Laramie at the state tournament. Hanna-Elk Mountain was able to beat Arvada-Clearmont three sets to zero, cinching their spot as the third place finishers in the tournament.
Upton High School didn’t fare so well in regional play, and will not be moving on to the state tournament. Upton lost in the first round of play to Hanna-Elk Mountain three sets to one, but were able to turn around in consolation play and beat Guernsey-Sunrise three sets to zero. Upton came back for the second day of play, and played for their spot in the third and fourth place game against Arvada-Clearmont, but lost that game three sets to zero and were eliminated from the tournament, a win away from qualifying for the state tournament.
