Located at 3163 W. Main St., Kaiser Underground is a one-stop shop for all your excavation, dirt work, utility repair and septic and water needs. Mason Kaiser and his fiancée, Riki Bartel, opened the business a little over a year ago to offer the people of Newcastle another local option.
Kaiser has a great deal of experience in this kind of work, he said, because he’s been involved in it for about 12 years. His interest in running his own business began a few years ago, before he finally took a leap of faith last April and started this new venture.
“It’s been pretty good,” Kaiser said. While things have been a little rough due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related issues with the economy, Kaiser said that, ultimately, the support from the community has been greatly appreciated. Kaiser has extended some business into Upton as well, and he is trying to expand into the Sundance area.
“I do most of the paperwork,” Bartel said. She enjoys working with Kaiser, she said, and she gets to spend a lot of time with him and “see a different side of him.”
Both Kaiser and Bartel expressed their desire to benefit others with their services, and they’re willing to do any job. Any problem a customer has, Kaiser said, the business can either fix or point the customer in the right direction of who to call.
“We’re definitely here to help,” Kaiser said, noting the benefit of having local businesses to help you out, rather than trying to rely on out-of-town businesses that aren’t as easy to deal with. Kaiser is also flexible with his time and willing to do what it takes to get a job done.
Being open and prompt in communication with customers is of great importance, Kaiser said. He always tries to look at a problem before taking action to make sure it’s fixed properly.
“Being honest and reliable is a key factor,” Kaiser said.
Bartel said that she hopes for continued success and growth for the business, and Kaiser shared his goal to operate a “well-rounded,” large-scale company.
While the couple hopes that the economy will get better, their ultimate desire is to let the community know
that they are here and ready, willing and able to take on any project that needs to be done.
“As long as they (customers) are happy at the end of the day, then I’m tickled pink,” Kaiser said.
