Jesus Never Said
Sometimes, we get caught in the idea that we must have everything figured out before we can step into faith. Maybe we think we need to understand every aspect of Scripture, have all the theological answers, or resolve every doubt before we can truly trust God. But when we look at Jesus' words and life, we see something completely different.
Jesus never said, “You must have all the answers before you can have faith.” In fact, He called people to follow Him with questions and doubts, often without a full understanding of who He was or what would happen next. Take the disciples, for example. They didn’t have it all figured out when they left everything to follow Jesus. They made mistakes, they asked questions, and sometimes they didn’t understand His teachings. But Jesus didn’t turn them away for their lack of perfect knowledge. Instead, He met them where they were and led them in faith. Jesus said, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19), even when they didn’t have all the answers.
Faith doesn’t require answers to every question. It doesn’t depend on having every doubt resolved or every fear erased. It starts with trust—trust that God is who He says He is and that He will guide us, even when we don’t have all the details. Jesus reassured us in Matthew 17:20, saying, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
This kind of faith allows us to take steps toward Him, even when we can’t see the whole path. It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about surrendering to the One who has them. Jesus invites us to come as we are, to bring our questions, our struggles, and our uncertainties. He doesn’t ask us to be perfect before we step into His grace. In fact, it’s our willingness to trust Him, even when we don’t know everything, that pleases Him.
Jesus said in John 14:1, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.” This is a call to trust, even when things aren’t fully understood.
So, if you’re waiting until you have everything figured out to believe or follow Jesus, remember: You don’t need all the answers. Just the willingness to say, “Yes, Lord. I trust You.” As Jesus promised in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
