Do you ever find yourself in a quiet moment, reflecting on the deeper things in life? Lately, I've been asking myself—how close do I really want to be to God? It sounds simple, but the more I think about it, the deeper it gets. It’s not just about knowing about Him; it’s about truly knowing Him.

There's a verse in James 4:8 that keeps coming to mind: Come close to God, and God will come close to you. It’s more than just an invitation; it’s a promise. If we take a step toward Him, He responds. That kind of closeness isn’t about religion or routines; it’s about seeking Him with a real, hungry heart.

I think about someone who’s just exhausted from everything life throws at them, struggling, searching, but deep down, they know they need God. And the more they reach for Him, the stronger that pull becomes. But you can’t just sit back and hope for it to happen. You have to take action; pray, focus on Him, dig into His Word. The more effort you put in, the more you find Him right there waiting.

The incredible thing is, God wants to be close to us, too. Think about that. The Creator of everything actually desires a relationship with us. When we reach out, He responds. He listens. He speaks truth. He loves us in a way nothing else ever could.

Psalm 73:28 puts it perfectly: But as for me, the nearness of God is good for me; I have made the Lord God my refuge. So that I may tell of all Your works. When we stop chasing after all the things we think will make us happy and just rest in Him, we realize He was what we needed all along.

So what does getting closer to God really look like? It changes everything; not just how we think, but who we are. The weight of life doesn’t feel so heavy. We start seeing things differently, with purpose, with clarity. It’s not just an upgrade; it’s a deeper way of living.

When we truly walk with God, seeking Him with all our heart and seeing Him for who He truly is, love grows. grows. Peace settles in. Joy becomes real. We become more patient, more kind, more steady. The things that once defined us fade, and His presence defines us instead.

So when you ask yourself, How close do I want to be to God? know that it’s not just a question; it’s the key to everything. If we seek Him, He meets us there. And in that closeness, we finally see just how great He is, how much He loves us, and what it truly means to walk with Him.
