Hospital welcomes new doctor

Looking for a change of pace and a better quality of life, Dr. Regg Hagge moved with his family, wife Danielle and their 4 daughters, to Newcastle to join the staff at Weston County Health Services. Hagge, who began work in Newcastle on Aug. 1,  and his family have already become quite involved in Weston County life. 
Born and raised in Bloomfield, Nebraska, Hagge stayed close to home to attend college. He attended undergraduate school at Chadron State College in Nebraska before moving on to The University of Nebraska medical school. 
After school at the University of Nebraska, from where he graduated in 1998, Hagge practiced family medicine for the last 10 years in South Dakota, where he met WCHS CEO Maureen Cadwell. Prior to South Dakota, Hagge worked in Nebraska. 
“There are many moves between Nebraska and South Dakota, too many to list,” Hagge said, adding that prior to moving to Newcastle his family lived Valentine, Nebraska. 
According to Hagge, he has practiced family medicine for the past 20 years – most recently in Valentine — and his true love is obstetrics, the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. He said that although he really enjoys delivering babies, he was ready for a change. 
Hagge said he and his family had always wanted to live in Wyoming, so when Cadwell told him that a job as a full-time emergency room doctor was available at the Newcastle hospital, he had found the change he was looking for. 
“The quality of life here is really enticing,” Hagge said. “To myself, my wife and four daughters.” 
Hagge’s daughters are Lillian, 13; Abigail, 10; Anabelle, 8; and Lucille, 3. Hagge noted that they are enjoying the community so far, and even participated in the county fair shortly after their arrival in Newcastle. 
“Part of the idea of coming out here is that I am halfway through my career, and this job gives me the opportunity to reflect,” Hagge said. “To reflect on the last 20 years of my life and the next 20 years.” 
He noted that the quality of life Newcastle and the job the Newcastle hospital has to offer is a better fit for his family. 
Hagge has even put his name into the running for Weston County School District No. 1 trustee – a sure sign he is here to stay. 
“We want to make this home,” Hagge said, adding that the best way to make a community home is to be involved from the start. 
Hagge plans to stay at the local hospital working in the emergency room, waiting to see what his future holds.
