Hopes over fears
At the end of a long winter that has made it seem like an even longer school year, it was wonderful to see our eighth grade students enjoying themselves at Monday night’s musical.
While we share the community’s concern over the fact that local schools and law enforcement had to investigate a possible threat of violence in our schools, we are grateful that the threat has been averted, nobody was harmed and our children — as seen on Monday night — are free to celebrate spring’s arrival.
We remind our readers that we are free to celebrate with them, and encourage you to focus on the wealth of wonderful opportunities provided to our children in Weston County and the amazing successes our kids enjoy — and that are chronicled in these pages each week.
It would be easy to get consumed by fear for our children. They are the first generation to grow up in this country not only fearing attack from enemies afar (September 11, 2001) but also having to acknowledge that they could face an attack in their own schools. It is scary knowing there is no way to 100 percent ensure the safety of our children in this era, but we also know the fear can be overcome with hope and love — and urge our readers to embrace those feelings for our children instead.
