The concept that God knows individuals before they are born is deeply rooted in the belief in God's omniscience and His eternal perspective. The Bible affirms this truth in Jeremiah 1:5, which declares, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations." This verse emphasizes God's intimate knowledge of each person even before their physical existence begins. It speaks to the idea that God has a specific purpose and plan for each individual, known to Him from eternity.

This belief is often tied to the concept of divine purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 further reinforces this notion, stating, "For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." Here, God assures His people that He has plans for their well-being and a future filled with hope, showcasing His intentional involvement in shaping their lives according to His divine purpose.

Psalm 139:13-16 provides additional insight into God's intimate knowledge and involvement in the creation of individuals. It says, "For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them." This passage underscores the depth of God's care and attention to detail in shaping each person according to His divine purpose, even before they were fully formed in the womb.

In summary, the belief that God knows individuals before they are born is a foundational aspect of Christian faith, reflecting God's omniscience, eternal perspective, and divine purpose for each person's life. It is a source of comfort and assurance, knowing that God has a plan and a purpose for each of us, known to Him from the beginning of time.
