Go to the show, laugh at yourselves
Following a five-year hiatus, the Cody Rotary Show will reappear on Friday, Feb. 28.
We missed you.
Despite what is themed as “Cody Rotary Show 2.0: The FUN size!” we hope it will contain much of the same content as it did in past years.
Rotary show director and head writer Lisa Peterman said the production will be a scaled-back version from prior years with no sets or props. Also new this time around, the event will feature dinner, a shorter show and a new venue, The Cody Cattle Company.
Proceeds from the event fund local service projects.
All of the service organizations in Park County contribute greatly to the general welfare of the citizens of the communities and even support or help finance projects statewide and internationally.
A number of those organizations, in addition to the Rotary Club, conduct annual events such as the Cody Lions Club Turkey Day; Cody Optimist Club’s Kids Fishing Derby in conjunction with the Wyoming Game and Fish; and the Soroptimist International of Cody’s wine tasting.
However, the Cody Rotary Show stands apart in one aspect. As Peterman told the Enterprise, “We’ll be back to spoofing the community and the goings-on around town. There are a lot of things we can spoof this year.”
The Cody Rotary Show is a rarity in that the community gets to laugh at itself. We doubt many towns in the U.S. would even attempt to replicate something like this.
It’s unusual and refreshing for a community and community officials to take a look at themselves, be roasted and enjoy it.
Way too often we are too prideful and too serious about ourselves and our accomplishments. The Cody Rotary Show’s spoofs bring us back down to reality without any petty shoddiness, and we can laugh about our foibles.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 6-12. Kids 5 and under get in free.
Twenty bucks is a small price to pay for dinner and an opportunity to have our friends and neighbors ridicule us.
See you at the show.
