Get out and get in the groove
Last week we raved about the Crouch Auditorium and all the fun and exciting things the magnificent room brings to this community. In a community our size, we have tons of opportunities to enjoy the arts and appreciate the finer things in life thanks to that room — and the people in our community that care about the arts and our ability to enjoy them.
Thanks to Newcastle Choir teacher Jan Ellis, once again the Crouch Auditorium will be alive with the sounds of percussion and voices as the University of Wyoming a cappella group the Happy Jacks take the stage next week.
Now let’s get real, who doesn’t love a cappella?
The art has gone mainstream thanks to movies like Pitch Perfect and groups are turning songs of every genre into a cappella pieces guaranteed to make you want to move your feet.
For those of you who may not be familiar with what a cappella is, it is a style of music performed without instrumental accompaniment. These men use their voices and sounds to create everything from the lyrics to the beat.
Not only are the Happy Jacks, under the instruction of Dr. Nicole Lamartine, coming to Newcastle to perform a free concert for the public, but they will also be working with local choir students during the afternoon.
Talk about a double win, a free performance and a free experience for the high school students in the community.
So, get out of your house and take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the arts right here in Newcastle with this fun group of a cappella performers. Join us in celebrating music and all that it can bring to life on May 1 at 7 p.m. We will see you there!
