Extend the same courtesy

The Weston County Commissioners made the decision to hold their April 21 meeting in Upton at 5 p.m.
The reason we think this is important is not because of the decision to hold the meeting there at 5 p.m., but the reasoning behind the meeting being scheduled in the evening for that one particular meeting, to allow for the general public of Upton to have the opportunity
to attend.
Our question is, why do the Weston County Commissioners think it is so crucial that the Upton residents have better access to their meeting than the public living in Newcastle?
Every other Weston County Commissioners meeting begins at 9 a.m. the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Weston County Courthouse. There is no special time consideration for the public living within the Newcastle community and their ability to attend
those meetings.
If the Weston County Commissioners want to see the public engaged in their meetings and the happenings of  local government, then the group, as well as every other elected official within the community, needs to make themselves accessible at times the regular public has the ability to reach out to them.
We suggest the commissioners consider holding at least one meeting a month in the evening to extend the same courtesy to Newcastle residents that they feel is so crucial to extend to those on the other side of the county.
