While the Dogie Theater has remained mostly closed due to studios pushing back release dates, it will be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to show “Colorado Territory,” a 1949 western.
William Nelson, theater manager, said that the Dogie is trying to get people interested in coming down to the theater, and the movie is one of owner Gerald Bullard’s favorites.
Nelson said that if the showing goes well, there’s a chance the Dogie will continue to show old movies if there’s enough of an interest and studios keep pushing back releases.
“It’ll bring people back to the movies,” Nelson said.
The theater will also be selling the usual popcorn and concessions, and anyone is welcome to purchase the concessions, even if they don’t stay for the movie. Nelson also said that the theater is planning on continuing to open for concessions on occasion, even when there is no movie showing, although there is no specific schedule for that.
The theater is still practicing social distancing between groups, and staff is being diligent with sanitizing and wiping counters and seats down.
There are still no updates for when studios will start releasing their films, and Nelson said that everything keeps getting pushed back. With so much uncertainty, Nelson said, any support from the community would be appreciated.
