The Day the Debt Was Paid
Reflect on the true meaning of Good Fridayâthe day Jesus paid our debt in full. His death wasn't a defeat, but the victory of love that brought salvation to all who believe.
The term âGood Fridayâ can sound strange when you think about it. Jesus was betrayed, mocked, beaten, and nailed to a cross. On the surface, there was nothing good about that day.
But for those who follow Him, we see it differently.
That cross wasnât a sign of defeat. It was the place where the debt of sin was paid in full.
It wasnât the nails that held Jesus thereâit was love.
Love for you. Love for me.
Love that chose the cross so we wouldnât have to face the punishment we deserved.
âBut He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; the punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.â â Isaiah 53:5
As He hung there, bearing the weight of the worldâs sin, Jesus spoke three powerful words:
âIt is finished.â â John 19:30
He didnât mean His life was finished. He meant the work was done.
The price for sin had been paid.
The enemyâs grip was broken.
The plan of salvation was complete.
Thatâs why we call it Good Friday.
Because on that dark day, light broke through.
Because on that cross, freedom was bought.
Because the blood that was shed paid the price once and for all.
