LARAMIE, Wyo. (10/17/24) – The University of Wyoming women’s swimming and diving team has its home and Mountain West Conference opener dual meet on Saturday. The Cowgirls will host New Mexico at 10 a.m. at Laramie High School.

Two weekends ago, Wyoming swim and dive opened its regular season at the Air Force Front Range Invite. While the Pokes exceeded expectations on both the men’s and women’s side at the meet, the Cowgirls had several impressive individual and relay performances in the pool and off the diving board. They were led by sophomore Tara Joyce and freshman Macey Hansen who each contributed multiple first-place finishes, while Joyce also had a tremendous impact anchoring three first-place and one second-place relay teams.

“Our women are excited to host New Mexico at the high school this Saturday,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “Several of our new swimmers haven’t been able to compete yet this season, so we will be breaking the ice in a few events. I think some of our veterans will be able to showcase their 3rd or 4th best events and have a fun day of racing. Our divers are off to a great start of the season and their talent will also be on display.”

Wyoming went 8-2 overall and 3-1 in Mountain West Conference dual meets in 2023-24. The Cowgirls last faced New Mexico away in January 2024. They were dominant in the pool and came away with a 169.5-120.5 victory while sweeping five events and taking first in 13 of 16 events.

After hosting the Lobos, Wyoming next travels to Colorado Mesa. Both the men and women will compete against the Mavericks in Grand Junction, Colorado, starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 26.
