Cowgirls Rise to Sixth, Cowboys Stay Steady in Week Two Poll
NEW ORLEANS (September 30, 2024) – Wyoming Cowgirls reached their highest ranking since 2016 as they moved up three places to sixth and the Cowboys remained in seventh in the week two U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mountain Region poll released on Monday.
After finishing third at the Roy Griak Invitational and senior Kylie Simshauser running to a third-place finish on Sept. 20, the Cowgirls rose from ninth and moved ahead of Colorado State, Colorado and Weber State from the week one poll. Cowgirls are now only behind Northern Arizona, BYU, Utah, New Mexico and Utah Valley, all of which were ranked in the national week one poll.
Other Mountain West women’s teams in this week’s rankings were No. 4 New Mexico, No. 7 Air Force, No. 8 Utah State and No. 10 Colorado State from the Mountain Poll and No. 5 Boise State from the West Poll.
On the men’s side, Wyoming stayed in seventh place after winning the Roy Griak Invitational for the first time in program history. The Mountain Poll featured six Mountain West teams with New Mexico in third, Air Force in fifth, Wyoming seventh, Utah State in eighth, Colorado State in ninth and Nevada in 14th. Also ranked was No. 8 Boise State in the West Poll.

Wyoming hits the starting line for the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, in South Bend, Ind. The women will run at 8:30 a.m. MT while the men race at 9:15 a.m. MT.
