COVID concerns lead to WCCC closure
The Weston County Children’s Center in Newcastle has been directed by the Wyoming Department of Health to suspend activity at the center amid COVID-19 concerns, according to a press release from the facility.
The doors will be closed at WCCC for 14 days after four unidentified staff at the school tested positive. To date, no positive cases among children have been linked to the facility.
WCCC Director Francie Gregory reported that the decision had already been made last night to close the children’s center today while health officials reviewed the COVID situation at the center. By noon on Thursday, Gregory had been informed that the shutdown would last through October 7.
“We are obviously saddened by this. Our first thoughts are for our staff members, and we hope they return to health soon. We also really sympathize with our kids and their parents, but will obviously follow the directives from the state. We appreciate everybody’s patience as we work through this, and really look forward to getting kids back in their classrooms after this break,” Gregory said.
Gregory said that state health officials indicated the facility could re-open and begin welcoming children again on October 8.
