County valuation is up

By

Weston County will again see an increase in assessed valuation, according to Assessor Kara Lenardson, who reported that preliminary numbers show an increase of approximately $10 million in the local assessed value.
“I am still waiting on some of the state-assessed valuations, but I did receive some preliminary oil and gas assessed valuations, which are up $15 million,” Lenardson said. “Locally assessed is up approximately $10 million.”
In 2021, the county’s total valuation was $146,841,062. This is important for county government, as a lower valuation produces lower amounts of tax revenue for government services.
A breakdown shows that the 2021 state-assessed valuation was down almost $1.7 million totaling $65,866,497. Locally, the assessed value was up almost $5.2 million, reaching a total of $80,974,565.
Official valuation numbers are expected to be released in early July.
