CAROL ANN WANG

March 14, 1939–Jan. 21, 2024

Carol Ann Wang, 84 of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away on Jan. 21, 2024.

Carol was born on March 14, 1939, to Waldron and Frances Townsend in Edgemont, South Dakota. She grew up in the oil patch near Osage, Wyoming, and graduated from Upton High School in 1957. Carol attended the University of Wyoming and was the first female graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program.

In 1961, Carol was united in marriage to Roy Kimbell. They moved to Florida where she worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft on the RL10 rocket engine program. While there, she earned her master’s degree from the University of Florida in electrical engineering and taught physics at a community college in Stewart, Florida. Michael was born in 1965, followed by Brian in 1969.

In 1978, Carol moved to Spearfish to teach physics and accounting at Black Hills State College. On Aug. 7, 1981, she married Jerrold Wang and with this union added two more sons, John and Edward, to the fold. Carol earned her Certified Public Accountant and, together with Jerry, started an accounting business. In 1991 they sold the practice and moved back to Florida where she worked in accounting until her retirement.

Carol grew up in a very musical family and had a passion for music. She played piano and organ at various churches and was an active member of the Sweet Adelines for over 20 years. She sang baritone in the Sound of Sunshine Chorus in Orlando and enjoyed traveling with Greece, Wales and Alaska being some of her favorite places. Carol was an avid reader and loved to teach. She had a knack for taking in strays, opening her home to provide love and support to many high school and college kids over the years.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; her sons, Michael (Debra) Kimbell of Spearfish, Brian Kimbell of Whitewood, South Dakota; step-sons, John (Cathy) Wang of Lecanto, Florida, and Edward (Annette) Wang of Wichita Falls, Texas; her grandchildren, Danny Wang of Germany, Christopher (Cali) Egerdahl of Spearfish, Jacob Wang of Fort Worth, Texas, Matthew Wang of Wichita Falls, Texas, Anna Kimbell and Jesse Kimbell of Spearfish; and great-grandchildren, Hayes Egerdahl and Millie Egerdahl of Spearfish.
