Considering the alternatives

W
ith governmental dollars handed out by the truckload over the last few years, a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are happy to see local entities considering various spending avenues for the funds, not just lining their employees pockets.
Both the Weston County School District No. 1 Supertintendent and the Weston County Commissioners have vowed to look at utilizing the funds in ways that are productive for the entire community before handing out bonuses or retention incentives like so many communities across
the state.
We are also proud to say that both of these entities have actively engaged individuals outside of their own boards for suggestions and opinions on the spending.
We want to encourage anyone that is interested in the way local entites are using these funds to reach out and talk to them as well as your representatives and senators.
This money isn’t free and we all know that. It would be nice to see the money go towards things that will benefit everyone, for years to come.
So thank you Superintendent Brad LaCroix for opening the dialogue on how to spend the dollars received by the school district and thank you to the Board of Weston County Commissioners for taking the time to analyze all of the potential spending options before making any decisions.
We aren’t saying the employees don’t deserve anything but we are glad the governing bodies have
taken the time to consider all of
the options.
Timing is key and with multiple years left to spend the funds, there is no need to rush and make rash decisions on spending such a large chunk of money!
