Biblical Truth for Beginners
Discover the power of God’s Word with "Biblical Truth for Beginners." Learn why the Bible is the ultimate source of truth, how to avoid false teachings, and how to grow your faith by studying Scripture.
When it comes to understanding God and His plan for humanity, there is no greater source than the Bible. The Bible is unique—it is God-breathed and wholly sufficient for teaching, correction, and equipping believers. Yet, in a world filled with opinions, interpretations, and even counterfeit teachings, it’s vital to ask: What is biblical truth?
Jesus prayed to the Father, saying, “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17). This simple yet profound statement reveals that God’s Word is the ultimate standard for truth. Everything we believe must align with Scripture. If it doesn’t, it cannot be trusted.
Many religions and organizations claim to follow the Bible but rely on books, doctrines, or traditions written by men to define their faith. While these writings may sound spiritual, they often contradict or distort God’s Word. Paul warned believers to stay vigilant, saying, “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
It’s critical to recognize that the Bible stands alone as God’s inspired Word. Peter wrote, “But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:20-21). The Bible is not the work of human imagination or opinion but the very voice of God.
How can we avoid being misled? The answer lies in Scripture itself. We must diligently study the Bible, just as the Bereans did. When Paul preached to them, they “examined the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). This mindset of checking every teaching against God’s Word protects us from error and ensures our faith remains rooted in truth.
Even as you read this, I encourage you to do the same. Do not take my words—or anyone else’s—at face value. Instead, test everything by the Bible. Paul urged, “Examine everything; hold firmly to that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
Jesus Himself warned of false teachers who would come, looking like sheep but inwardly being ravenous wolves. He said, “You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). Their teachings may seem appealing, but if they do not align with Scripture, they are not from God. The Word of God is sufficient. It contains everything we need for life and godliness, pointing us to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Bible is living and active. It has the power to convict, correct, and transform. “For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit” (Hebrews 4:12). Trust it fully, and let it guide every part of your life.
In your journey of faith, cling to the Bible. Do not be distracted by what men write or teach apart from it. Always go back to God’s Word, which never fails. As Isaiah declared, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8).
Let the truth of Scripture be your foundation. Test everything, hold fast to what is good, and trust that God will lead you as you seek Him through His Word.
